Previously I posted that I was busy working on my next novel. Well, I finished the first draft on Wednesday, August 31, but didn't feel like celebrating when people in my state are suffering.
Words cannot express how I feel right now. If you've been watching CNN, FOX, or any of the other news stations, you're aware of the loss of lives in New Orleans and the other Gulf Coast States. I have been glued to the TV and on one hand I applaud those that are risking their lives to help, but then on the other hand I'm saddened because it doesn't seem like help is getting there fast enough for my people that are in need. Many are dying by the wayside. They feel like we've abandoned them. Why can't we airlift food and other items to them??? Holding another press conference isn't helping anyone...Action is what's needed.
I know there has been shooting, but we're fighting a war in Iraq which is 100 times worse. Majority of the folks are not shooting, they should not suffer for an ignorant few.
My mind can't comprehend what they may be going through. My compassion for them has brought me to tears throughout the week.
I'm pleading with everyone to Pray, to Donate their money, items and/or their time to help.
These are our people. It could have happened anywhere. Remember the Flood of '93 on the banks of the Mississippi River. It was bad and lives were lost, but nothing like the magnitude of what we're witnessing in Louisiana, Mississippi, etc.
Help. I plead with everyone who read this to help by any means necessary.
Celebrities like Sean "Diddy" Combs, Shawn "JayZ" Carter, and David Banner are pulling together and we as individuals have to pull together. We might not have the millions that they do, but every cent counts.

Thanks Shelia. I just wish there was a way that I could get down there and do something to help.
