Recouped and ready to DO IT

The past few weeks I've taken a break from a lot of things. With my temp job (which has now ended) it took a lot out of me. Now that I've had time to regroup, I'm ready to finish the rest of the things on my to do list.

I didn't realize how "tired" I was until I no longer had to work 14/16 hour days. Now don't get me wrong, I can write 14 hours and it doesn't bother me, but when it comes to other jobs, I have a problem with putting in that much time because it's taking me away from doing what I love most-WRITING.

Now that I've rested. I'm ready to write, promote, write and write some more.

Time Life Music presents DUETS from The Classic Soul Ballads Collection. Duets is a soul stirring CD compilation of some of the best duets in music history.

Disc 1

Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing – Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
Endless Love – Diana Ross and Lionel Richie
You Don't Have To Be A Star – Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr.

Tonight, I Celebrate My Love - Peabo Bryson with Robera Flack

Not an original post - but worthy just the same.

Every now and then I have to take time away from the computer and everyone else. I needed a break, but I'm now back. This was in my inbox, so I thought I would share.

A SUGGESTED GIFT LIST

1) THE GIFT OF LISTENING...
But you must REALLY listen.
No interrupting, no daydreaming, no planning your response.
Just listening.

2) THE GIFT OF AFFECTION...
Be generous with appropriate hugs,
kisses, pats on the back and handholds.
Let these small actions demonstrate the
love you have for family and friends.

3) THE GIFT OF LAUGHTER...
Clip cartoons.
Share articles and funny stories.
Your gift will say, "I love to laugh with you."

4) THE GIFT OF A WRITTEN NOTE...
It can be a simple "Thanks for the help" note or a full sonnet.
A brief, handwritten note may be remembered for a lifetime, and may even
change a life.

5) THE GIFT OF A COMPLIMENT...
A simple and sincere, "You look great in red," "You did a super job" or
"That was a wonderful meal" can make someone's day.

6) THE GIFT OF A FAVOR...
Every day, go out of your way to do something kind.

7) THE GIFT OF SOLITUDE...
There are times when we want nothing better than to be left alone.
Be sensitive to those times and give the gift of solitude to others.

8) THE GIFT OF A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION...
The easiest way to feel good is to extend a kind word to someone, really
it's not that hard to say, Hello or Thank You.

Monster-in-law - The Movie

I went to see the new movie - Monster-in-law, starring Jennifer Lopez as the bride to be and Jane Fonda as the Mother in law from hell.

The movie was entertaining and hilarious. The only problem I had was the fact that I didn't write the story...lol. I loved the concept. So many folks have in-laws that are hard to deal with so I applaud the writer of this movie.

I went on a date but most men might consider this a "chick flick" and they would be correct. Although the guy I was with found some of the things funny, he only went because it was a movie I wanted to see.

This movie is probably the best movie Jennifer Lopez has done in the past two years. Wanda Sykes also provides some comic relief. Wanda has a knack for making "anything" funny.

Book Club Event

I always love going to book club events. It's a chance to interact with readers and learn what they like and dislike. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely group of women who made the discussion of Victor McGlothin's novel, Autumn Leaves, unforgettable. Another thing that made this book club event special was the fact that Victor was on hand to discuss what I term as "behind the scenes" of why he wrote the book.

During events such as this, it also gives me the opportunity to spend time with my collegues. It was nice seeing them again.

Natalie - A Singer to Watch out For

Natalie’s GOIN CRAZY single has been blasting on airwaves nationwide and earned itself a spot as #1 on Billboard’s top singles chart. After listening to her entire self-titled NATALIE CD, I’m sure there’s more hit singles to come.

Natalie is currently on a two and a half month tour with Frankie J and Baby Bash. She was on the tour bus when I interviewed her.

SHELIA: Where were you when you heard your first single, GOIN CRAZY, on the radio?
NATALIE: I was at a Taco Bell drive thru in Houston, TX with my little sister. My friends and family had asked me had I heard it and I hadn’t yet.

If you're interested in the entire interview, please contact me directly at sheliagoss@aol.com.

Natalie and Latium Entertainment are sponsoring a contest. For details, click here:

Essence Best Sellers List - My Invisible Husband

It's been a few days since I posted. Since last week, I've received some GREAT news. I feel blessed and I thank God for it. MY INVISIBLE HUSBAND, my second novel, has been listed on the ESSENCE Magazine's Best Sellers list for the month of June.

I went through so many good emotions when I found out. I was checking email around one something Monday morning and clicked on the link to Essence's website: http://www.essence.com/essence/books.

I scrolled down and blinked my eyes several times because I thought I was dreaming. Remember it's one something in the morning and I might add I was sleepy but determined to check my email before going to bed.

Anyway, I let out a silent scream (still respectful for the other folks in the house)...got out the chair, did the "happy dance" and then proceeded to call my friend/author on the West Coast because I figured he would still be up due to the time zone difference. I didn't catch him on the phone, but he happened to be online so I chatted with him about it...also took time to meditate, because I'm a living testimony that God does answer prayers.

I'll stop rambling, but I'm still floating on a cloud.

My Invisible Husband tells the tale of one woman’s desperate attempt to stop the age-old question posed to all women at some point in their lives: So when are you getting married? How far would you go to please your family and friends?
34 year old Nicolette Montana fakes a Las Vegas wedding.Find out Nikki's story in

Writers BL----

See I can't even say the word.

Trying to juggle it all has been somewhat of a struggle lately. Here I thought I had it all under control. NOT. I knew I didn't when my 20 hour per week worth of sleep finally caught up with me--been falling asleep at the keyboards. For the first time that I can recall, I have what most writers dread--WRITER'S BLOCK.

I know why and it's because I'm tired. So to give myself a home remedy cure, I will be sleeping late on Saturday. I won't be answering the phone unless it's a dire emergency and I will relax and read a good book and watch Lifetime movies when I've slept so much that I can't sleep anymore.

If you're a writer and has experienced writer's block before, what caused it and how did you get over it?

Why Are You Playing Games Part II(As The Music Fades)

© 2000, 2005 by Shelia M. Goss.All Rights Reserved.

I’ve been thinking about you more than I should

And your actions are doing me no good.

I was there for you whenever you called,

But when I needed you, you couldn’t be found.

When I’m not there, you should understand why.

I gave you my time, and you gave me some lies.

Tell me, Do you get a thrill on playing these games?

Do you look at the caller id, because you can’t remember my name?

Why Are You Playing Games with me?

If you’re not playing games, I do apologize.

But if you are, please stop wasting my time.

I know you’re busy, but I’m busy too.

And no matter what, I seemed to make time for you.

Communication is a two way street.

Verbal, not just in between the sheets.

See I’ve been down this road before

And to be honest, I can’t take much more.

So I ask you, Why Are You Playing Games with me?

I’ve given you the benefit of the doubt,

And now I’m seeing what you’re really about.

You tried to take advantage of my kind heart.

I’ll move on, before I let you tear it apart.

Time and time again, I’ve given you a chance.

So as the music fades, remember this is our last dance.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Although we might not always agree, you've always been there for me.
Although I've caused you heartache and pain, you're someone I can always depend.
There's no one more special than you.
You're like the rainbow, a gift from God.

On the eve of Mother's Day, I want to say--Thank you for being you. There's no other.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MOM.

Elvis - The Next Generation - Lisa Marie Presley

Of course a trip to Memphis is not complete without a visit to the Lorraine Motel, Beale Street, or Graceland.

Elvis, the miniseries, will air on CBS this Sunday. Even though it's been 25 years since his death, many of his devoted fans will be tuned in.

When I got a chance to interview his daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, it's obvious he passed on the love for good music to her. Why did it take her so long to actively pursue a music career? Lisa Marie says,“Music has always been in my system… It took me awhile to do my first CD because I wanted to be taken serious and for it to be professional.”

If interested in the full interview with the King of Rock 'n Roll's daughter, Lisa Marie, send an email to sheliagoss@aol.com for additional information.

The Stages of Life: My Mom, My Best Friend

The Stages of Life My Best Friends
(The Stages of Life: My Mom, My Best Friend)
Copyright 2003, 2005 by Shelia M. Goss

For whatever reason, people may come and go in your life, but some people are unforgettable. The reason may be because you’ve moved, married, have more responsibility, but whatever the reason, best friends will always hold a special place in your heart. It doesn’t matter if the last time you hung out was today, yesterday or in some cases years. I know from experience that at each stage of life, it’s possible to have more than one best friend.

---

Although my friends have been important fixtures in my life; there’s only been one person that’s been my best friend all of my life. Honestly, I didn’t realize this until I moved clear across the country and that’s my Mom. She knows me inside and out and loves me unconditionally. She’s been there through my career changes, my relocations, my unemployment, and un-wise decisions. I wish every woman could experience having their Mom as their best friend.

From my experiences, a best friend is someone who loves you unconditionally. A person that you can depend on not only during the good times, but also when life seems to be full of heartaches and frustrations. A best friend is someone who is not afraid to “keep it real” with you, even when you might not be receptive to the truth. As we go through this journey called life, you never know who can end up being your best friend.
